Last Saturday it was the Nhill Bowling Club’s turn to hold their winter tournament which attracted an excellent field of 66 bowlers representing 12 clubs from neighbouring towns and mostly from around the Wimmera area. There were also visiting bowlers from Moonta (South Australia) and Mulwala (New South Wales). A perfect winter’s day greeted the bowlers to enable them to enjoy a day of fun and good fellowship. Players enter as individuals and it is up to the host club’s match committee to select the teams of triples.
After three games of ten ends it saw three teams win all their games and winning the tournament was Darren Gebert, Trevor Prior (Goroke) and John Brooks (Coughlin Park) with 15 shots up. Runners up on three wins thirteen shots up were Shaun McDonald, Graeme Scobie (Horsham Golf) and Marian McDonnell (Edenhope) followed by Trevor Ough (Horsham Golf), Kelvin Deckert and Neville Sleep (Rainbow) in third place with three wins and ten shots up. First resting touchers were won by Stuart Innes (Natimuk) and James McRae (Dimboola). Raffle prizes were won by Brad Blackwood (meat tray), Tige Maddern (Kaniva) (Luv-a-Duck), James McRae (Dimboola) (Luv-a-Duck), Glenis Mitchell (Goroke) (drinks), Graeme Brown (Edenhope) (chocolates) and Jeff Merrett (chocolates). Thanks to the ladies who provided a soup and barbecue lunch and also presented a lovely afternoon tea, barbecue chefs, bar staff and other members who assisted in an enjoyable day experienced by all. The club would sincerely like to thank the day’s sponsors in H. Tink Electrical and Luv-a-Duck (raffle prizes) and without their ongoing support a successful day would not have been achieved.
