The Overland is up and running again for 2021!

The train departed Adelaide on Sunday morning for the first time since March 2020, continuing its 130 year service.

After extensive lobbying efforts to resume the this vital service led by local Nhill residents Margaret Millington and Helen Woodhouse-Herrick a large crowd was at the Nhill station on 3rd Jan 2021 to welcome The Overland on it's first journey of 2021.

This much-loved journey showcases a relaxing and unique route, with diverse landscapes changing from rugged mallee scrub to fields of green and gold.

Dan Andrew Premier of Victoria later echoed the views of locals:
"The Overland has been an icon for 133 years.
It's more than just a train.
For the towns along the route, it means visitors and jobs.
And for many, it's the only way of getting to medical appointments in the city, visiting family – or simply moving around.
The Overland's future has hung in the balance ever since South Australia pulled the plug on their share of the funding.
But we know how important it is for people on both sides of the border – which is why we've stepped in to keep it running.
The first services of 2021 started last week.
So book your ticket and stop off in the towns along the way. Spend time and money in regional communities.
Because what we need now is Victorians exploring Victoria.
Let's get out there and support our state."
