District 17 Volunteers, Alex Zippel and Evan Hunter from Dimboola, Craig Deckert from Nhill and John Heinjus from Kaniva, joined with volunteers from District’s 15 & 16 to form Strike Team 1501. Travelling by coach to the Staging Area at the Yankallia Showgrounds saw Crews assigned to Baccus Marsh, Daylesford, Creswick, Buninyong-Mt Helen and Miners Rest Tankers, that had been taken across four days earlier by the previous Strike Team.

After a hot meal prepared by the Salvation Army, it was onto their accommodation at the Wirrina Cove Holiday Park. The oval had been taken over by the SES and flat pack air-conditioned pod accommodation set up along with shower and toilet blocks and a large mess tent with a TV and an endless supply of drinks, snacks and fruit. Crews from SES, CFS, CFA, NSW Rural Fire Service and WA Department Fire Emergency Service were all housed there. Working both day and night shifts.
