For over two decades during the winter months the Nhill and Warracknabeal Bowling Clubs play against each other in an intertown challenge match and hope to secure bragging rights and to hold a perpetual trophy.
Over this time the trophy has been held pretty evenly between the clubs with Nhill currently holding the trophy. Last Saturday the first day’s play for this season was held at Warracknabeal and which was played in the four seasons in one day. A few showers to commence play but finishing in a fine and sunny winters day. Unfortunately for Nhill they left their form at home with Warracknabeal winning six of the seven rinks and the other rink being a draw. At day’s end Warracknabeal had taken a 45 shot lead (163-118) and their best winning rink (24-9) was Josh Barry/Robyn Goodwin/Brett Johnson. The best performed Nhill rink was the draw (19-19) achieved by Rob Schneider/Barry Cramer/Merv Schneider. Warracknabeal members also snared the major raffle prizes with only some minor prizes won by Nhill’s Janette Gebert, Jeff Merrett and Ivan Reichelt. The second (and final) day of the challenge will be at Nhill on 15 August 2026 and Nhill will be hoping to overturn the 45 shot deficit and retain the trophy.
