At the August meeting of the Combined Probus Club of Nhill our President Sue Schneider inducted three new members. We welcomed Cheryl Lowe, Jan French and Kay Fritsch and trust that they will enjoy the friendship and social activities of being involved in this organisation.
Our guest speaker for the day was Jenny Cramer who spoke to us about her nursing career which has taken her to Botswana, London and large city hospitals in Australia. She has also worked at isolated aboriginal settlements serving at Amata, in northern South Australia, where she learned to speak the language of the Pitjantjatjara People and then at Broome with the Kimberly Aboriginal Medical Services Council as a Health Services Coordinator, supporting health workers in the region. She then went on to the remote community of Warburton, west of the WA, SA and NT border intersection, on Ngaantjatjarra lands. Throughout her career she described achieving many academic qualifications as well, including completing a PhD and writing a book called Sounding the Alarm, Remote Area Nurses and Aboriginals at Risk.
